Professional Corporations

How do I obtain a permit from the Institute to practice as a professional corporation?

Bylaw 108 specifies the requirements to practice as a professional corporation (PC). In order to obtain a permit from the Institute to practice as a professional corporation, the following steps must be completed in this order:

  1. Obtain approval from the Institute that the name of the corporation is in accordance with the bylaws. The name must include C.A. or Chartered Accountant and Professional Corporation, Prof. Corp., P.C. Inc. or P.C. Ltd. and be in accordance with the bylaws.  Your name request can be sent to Rhonda.  Once your name has been approved, you will be sent a letter of confirmation and your application form.
  2. Obtain a Certificate of Incorporation from the Corporations Branch. When you submit your application for professional corporation status to the Corporations Branch, you need to attach the letter from the Institute approving the name of the professional corporation.
  3. Apply to the Institute for an annual permit. Your application must include:
    • A completed application for issuance or renewal of an annual permit by a professional corporation
    • A copy of the Certificate of Incorporation
    • A copy of your liability insurance policy or firm name and policy number for firm policies
    • The appropriate set up and annual fees

Once the application has been received and processed, you will be issued an annual permit to practice as a professional corporation.
